
Julie Bowen
Senior Vice President, External Affairs and Outreach and Chief Legal Officer
Julie Bowen is senior vice president, external affairs and outreach and chief legal officer. She oversees and directs enterprise risk management and insider threat, and external affairs and outreach, which includes technology licensing and MITRE’s intellectual property transfer to industry, external partnerships with industry and academia, and community engagements and outreach.
As chief legal officer, she leads an in-house team that advises MITRE’s leadership and employees on legal matters, including cybersecurity issues, contracting, international and global presence, intellectual property, employment matters, healthcare law, and national security issues.
Bowen has been with MITRE since 2006. She previously held several chief legal officer and general counsel positions. She was also vice president of joint ventures and alliances at several technology and logistics companies.
She is a director of WidePoint Corporation and sits on the advisory board of Manetu, Inc. The Washington Business Journal named Bowen one of its 2021 Women Who Mean Business for her leadership inside and outside MITRE. Security Magazine named Bowen to its list of “Most Influential People in Security” in 2022, acknowledging her role in protecting our organization, furthering our mission, and elevating the security industry in significant ways.
Bowen graduated with honors from The Catholic University of America, with both bachelor’s and law degrees.
