MITRE Names Brian Abrahamson Chief Operating Officer

McLean, Va. and Bedford, Mass., April 28, 2025 MITRE has named Brian Abrahamson senior vice president and chief operating officer (COO). With nearly three decades of experience in driving a digitally enabled, mission-first approach to operational excellence in both the public sector and private industry, Abrahamson will lead efforts to position MITRE with best-in-class operational capabilities that support delivery of critical government missions.

As COO, Abrahamson will work across MITRE to champion a culture of continuous improvement and position MITRE as a benchmark for operational excellence, collaborating with cross-company teams to improve end-to-end operations to support MITRE’s federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs). He also will lead functional areas including corporate strategy, enterprise technology, global security, corporate real estate, and enterprise communications.

Abrahamson joins MITRE from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), where he served as chief digital officer and associate laboratory director. During his tenure at PNNL, he earned national recognition delivering operational improvements through digital transformation and led communications and public affairs, information technology, research computing, and enterprise-wide cybersecurity. His innovative approach and passion for simplicity streamlined the research experience and elevated the visibility of PNNL’s mission impact.

Prior to PNNL, Abrahamson led enterprise technology for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned utilities. He also spent more than a decade at Accenture, where he partnered with technology and business leaders at Fortune 250 companies to drive digital transformation and operational efficiency. Abrahamson holds a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Gonzaga University.
