MITRE’s SPORTS Tracking and Playback System uses a commercial off-the-shelf radio frequency identification system to track the location of special operators as they move during their training exercises.
Squad Performance Optimization using Real-time Sensing (SPORTS) Tracking and Playback System
MITRE’s Squad Performance Optimization using Real-time Sensing (SPORTS) Tracking and Playback System provides objective, quantitative information on small unit performance during training. Our MotionLab software allows operators to immediately replay their training runs for visual review, and our suite of advanced analytics supports the evaluation of both individual and overall team performance.
MITRE’s SPORTS Tracking and Playback System uses a commercial off-the-shelf radio frequency identification system to track the location of special operators as they move during their training exercises. For instance, DoD special operators have used the SPORTS system to track their movement through a shoot house during close quarters battle training. Our MotionLab software allows the operators to replay their locations immediately after training runs for visual review. The playback is an overhead view of the training run that supplements the run debrief with a novel perspective that includes the simultaneous location of all team members and any other participants, such as a combatant team. Along with seeing a replay of operator locations, the technology supports the development of analytics that provide objective, quantitative information about both team and individual training performance.
Application
MITRE’s SPORTS Tracking and Playback System provides novel, quantitative human performance information that can be used to select candidates, assign team members to optimal roles, and augment ongoing small unit training. Combining the data collected over time and across many teams and organizations will allow the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms that can discover optimal standard operating procedures and power predictive decision-making for autonomous mission partners.
Value Proposition
There is a mature market for systems and services that support training on target identification and marksmanship, but there are few competitors in the space of movement tracking and replay and analysis.
Benefits
MITRE’s SPORTS Tracking and Playback System takes inspiration from the recent advances in player position tracking and movement analysis pioneered in professional sports. Our system provides small unit training instructors with quantitative data and novel visualizations on individual and team performance that were previously unavailable. Other performance sensing (e.g., physiological monitors) can be integrated and time-synchronized with the location data providing a holistic view of performance.
