This is part of MITRE's FastLicense™ program.

MITRE's Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA) Compliance Solution offers a low-cost hardware/software approach for seamless integration of small open-sourced unmanned maritime vehicles.

In the rapidly evolving world of maritime autonomy, there is a growing need for a standardized framework to ensure seamless integration and interoperability among varied unmanned and autonomous systems. UMAA is an initiative undertaken by the United States Navy to provide a comprehensive and unified approach to the operation and interoperability of unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) and other maritime robotic systems.

MITRE’s UMAA Compliance Solution is a reference implementation for small USVs that enables compliance with future Navy autonomy standards. It allows low-cost open-source vehicle controllers to seamlessly interface with emerging USV hardware to integrate new autonomy solutions. MITRE aims to provide commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) robotic controllers, a quick integration method for innovators in the autonomy and robotics space.

Key Features:

  • Compliant with UMAA Global Waypoint Service
  • UMAA interface for open-source vehicle controllers
  • Platform for Navy-compliant autonomy integration on small USVs
  • Compatible with open-source COTS hardware

MITRE’s UMAA Compliance Solution significantly reduces the barrier to entry for low-cost vehicles to interface with the Navy Autonomy Architecture.

What is FastLicense™?

FastLicense streamlines the technology transfer process by enabling commercial entities to pursue non-exclusive licenses for certain MITRE technologies. All license agreements are simple, favorable, and non-negotiable. The exact grant, term, field of use, and licensed product definition will be unique to each license.

What kinds of licenses does it include?

FastLicense agreements fall into two categories:

  • Non-exclusive commercial use licenses, with simple, pre-established terms (fees or no-fees)
  • Non-exclusive, no-fee, limited-use licenses (academic, research, and internal)
