Sociocultural Behavior Sensemaking: State of the Art in Understanding the Operational Environment
The past several years have seen significant advances in research and development across the human social culture behavior modeling domain. In order to document and share these advances, The MITRE Corporation has produced Sociocultural Behavior Sensemaking: State of the Art in Understanding the Operational Environment. This edited volume features chapters authored by experts in sociocultural behavior sensemaking across four operational capability areas: Sociocultural Understanding, Detection, Forecasting, and Mitigation. Each of the four sections dedicated to an operational capability area contains four chapters that focus on Data Processing, Computational Modeling, Visualization, and Training. These chapters highlight examples of recent advances, discuss the science and technology gaps, and propose strategies for incorporating recent advances into operational use for each of the capability areas.
This book raises awareness about emerging technical capabilities for operational communities. In doing so, it also provides the research and development funding community with a map of technology gaps that call for future investments to transition these capabilities to the field.
