Top Cyber Pro podcast host Jim West talked to MITRE Vice President of Cyber Technologies Wen Masters on MITRE's work in cybersecurity. For more than 50 years, MITRE has connected government, industry, and academia to harden defenses, secure critical infrastructure, create global cyber capacity, and address tomorrow’s cybersecurity challenge.
"We do function as a think tank, as we give objective, unbiased, conflict-free advice to our federal government sponsors and to the public. But we also do experimentation and develop prototypes of actual systems. For example, sensor systems," said Masters.
She added, "Back in the 1970s, right at a time when cybersecurity was not even a word in our dictionary, we focused on foundational approaches. We also developed the first specification of a trusted computing base, which was a precursor to trusted computer security evaluation criteria and actually was known as the Orange Book."
