The U.S. Army’s C5ISR Center is developing a tool called the Artificial Intelligence Course of Action Recommender, which allows soldiers to set mission objectives and priorities, and then suggests the best action to take.
The already complex battlefield environment will become even more challenging under the U.S. military’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concept.
“That’s going to explode as we move towards MDO [multidomain operations] and JADC2. We’ve got multiple domains now that the mission planners need to consider, so it’s not just land, but also air, maritime, cyber, and space that are all interconnected, much tighter than they have been in the past,” said MITRE’s Pete Schwartz, who works with the C5ISR Center on the tool. “It’s only going to become a more complex challenge to overcome, more combinations of decisions to consider, and shorter timelines in which to consider them.”
