The year 2022 proved transformative for MITRE, and I’m immensely proud of our significant contributions. As we hit the milestone of our 65-year anniversary, I believe we stand better prepared than ever to serve our government sponsors, our partners, and the public.
Despite rapidly evolving world events this past year, our teams continuously drove whole-of-nation impact. Threats to U.S. interests persisted, as Russia continued its war on Ukraine, fiscal policy issues escalated, and climate change and natural disasters raged. Throughout, MITRE’s people rose to address the challenges of the day and anticipate those of tomorrow.
As a not-for-profit company and trusted adviser operating at the intersection of government, industry, and academia, we convened and connected stakeholders to forge innovative solutions to these and other complex national and global problems.
Through the efforts of our national security and public sector businesses, we delivered on our sponsors’ most mission-critical requirements. In doing so, we created demand for MITRE Labs’ work in experimentation, solution design, deployment, and adoption. We leveraged this technical expertise and objective insight to inform national science and technology policy. And with the aim of enhancing national resilience and informing global strategy, we launched the Center for Strategic Competition—all in the same year.
A snapshot of MITRE’s 2022 impact includes:
- Welcoming more than 1,000 new colleagues
- Developing a community-curated System of Trust™ knowledge base to help organizations identify and mitigate cyber risks in major supply chains
- Through MITRE Engenuity™, our tech foundation, we are leading efforts across the private sector to accelerate breakthrough technologies, through the Semiconductor Alliance, Open Generation 5G Consortium, and our Center for Threat-Informed Defense
- Launching our Advanced Manufacturing, BlueTech, and Quantum Sensing labs to help the U.S. maintain its competitive edge
Central to our impact is our most important asset: our people. Staff of all backgrounds and disciplines live our values every day in pursuit of an ever-better future. I’m continually inspired by their technical excellence, commitment, and agility. In this report, several employees share their stories and what inspires them about MITRE’s work and culture.
It’s my privilege to work with our Board of Trustees and MITRE teams to deliver on our mission of solving problems for a safer world.
In gratitude and service,
Jason Providakes, Ph.D.
