Connect with MITRE

Booth 207
June 9-12, 2024

MITRE works in the public interest to address complex structural, technical, behavioral, and social challenges that affect health and healthcare delivery.

At MITRE, our public health experts recognize that improving the health of the nation requires a deep understanding of multiple populations. The needs, challenges, capabilities, and cultural values of these populations should be understood and appreciated to design and implement effective and equitable public health programs and policies.

MITRE brings a data driven approach and applies this knowledge about multiple fields, including epidemiology, infectious and chronic diseases, behavioral and environmental health, public health policy, health informatics and standards, artificial intelligence and emergency preparedness and response to solve complex population and public health problems.

Modernizing Public Health Data: Challenges, Opportunities, and Addressing the Last Mile Problem

This session will focus on the public health efforts towards data modernization, the challenges faced by public health agencies in managing and analyzing large volumes of health data, and the difficulties in translating this data into actionable insights at the community level, often referred to as the "last mile" problem. The potential of modern data management and analysis techniques, including AI, to enhance public health responses and build healthier communities will be explored, along with new opportunities for data modernization strategies such as The Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) and Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR). Success stories where technology has been effectively used to overcome these challenges will be highlighted. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss potential solutions, and explore a future where data is plentiful and sharing it is expected. Health departments leading in this area will be brought to the table for discussion in collaboration with MITRE.

Location: DLCC, 309

Data Driven Public Health

CODI: Childhood obesity is a significant problem in America. While we have plenty of data to help find answers, it's hard to bring that data together. The Childhood Obesity Data Initiative (CODI) aims to change that.

Mental Wellness Index (MWI)

The MWI is a framework and tool that provides data on factors influencing community-level mental wellness for each ZIP code in the nation. The MWI is composed of 28 measures organized under 3 domains: Social Determinants of Health, Healthcare Access, and Health Status. Additionally, the framework includes two dynamic factors: Structural Racism and Community & Cultural Assets. These factors are woven around and throughout the MWI domains, reflecting their influence throughout the framework.
