Diversity Awareness through the Corporate Diversity Awareness Committee (CDAC)

In its efforts to appreciate and celebrate diversity, MITRE established the employee-run Corporate Diversity Awareness Committee (CDAC), which has the full support of MITRE management.

Working as a team—with additional help from senior management and Human Resources staff—this all-employee forum fosters and enhances diversity throughout the corporation. Membership on the CDAC is open to all employees and all employees are actively encouraged to participate.

The mission of the committee includes providing:

  1. Communication—acting as a channel to convey information on affirmative action, cultural diversity, and equal opportunity to all employees.
  2. Education and outreach—working within MITRE to sponsor activities, distribute information, and develop plans to educate the MITRE community on issues of affirmative action and cultural diversity.
  3. Advocacy—informing management of general attitudes and special concerns regarding issues important to the community.

Human Resource Training Programs

  • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) & Affirmative Action (AA) training
  • Human resources regularly provides training and awareness activities on a broad range of diversity issues, especially those concerning Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action.
  • MITRE managers receive EEO and AA training throughout the year, and there is an initiative in progress to provide all MITRE employees with diversity training.
  • Training is also provided to all managers on sexual harassment. MITRE has a strict sexual harassment policy of which every employee needs to be made aware, made sensitive to—and respect.
  • Outreach with organizations and academic institutions
  • Through longstanding affiliations with professional and academic groups nationwide, MITRE promotes interest in engineering as a career choice and actively recruits new candidates for employment with MITRE. At present, MITRE outreach relationships exist with:
  • Society of Women Engineers
  • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
  • National Society of Black Engineers
  • INROADS
  • University of Puerto Rico Industry Affiliates Program
  • Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering (AMIE)
  • National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, INC (GEM)
  • Women in Technology International
  • Garrett A. Morgan Technology & Transportation Futures Program
  • North Carolina A&T University
