Mr. Alfred Grasso

President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Alfred GrassoMr. Alfred Grasso is president and chief executive officer of The MITRE Corporation. He is responsible for developing and leading the corporation's overall strategic and business operations and cultivating key sponsor and customer partnerships. Mr. Grasso is also a member of the Board of Trustees of The MITRE Corporation.

From July 2004 through October 2007, Mr. Grasso served as director of MITRE's Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) operated by MITRE for the Department of Defense (DoD). In this role, he was responsible for leading all of MITRE's C3I work, and ensuring integration across its various programs to achieve national security objectives. Mr. Grasso retained this position after being appointed president and CEO in July 2006.

From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Grasso was senior vice president and general manager of MITRE's Washington Command, Control, and Communications (WC3) Center, responsible for the management and direction of work conducted for the Army, Navy, Defense Information Systems Agency, Missile Defense Agency, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other members of the national security community.

From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Grasso served as vice president and chief information officer for MITRE. In that capacity, he was responsible for the corporation's information technology resources, including technology transition, infrastructure, and the use of information technologies throughout MITRE's customer programs. He focused on the strategic use of information technology with emphasis on harnessing the collective knowledge of the corporation.

Prior to becoming an officer, Mr. Grasso was technical director for the Battlefield Systems Division at MITRE's Fort Monmouth, N.J., operation. In this role, he was responsible for directing an array of programs that are part of the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battlefield Digitization Program.

Mr. Grasso served for six years in MITRE's Center for Air Force Command and Control Systems, where he was primarily responsible for Air Force ground mobile communications in support of Air Base Defense and Point Air Defense.

Before joining MITRE in 1986, Mr. Grasso was with ARINC Research Corporation and with the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. He was involved in internal research and development activities that focused on advanced receiver technology using integrated acousto-optics as a means of signal transformation.

Mr. Grasso received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1980 and his master's degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1993. He is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. Mr. Grasso holds positions on the Army Science Board and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He is a consultant to the Defense Science Board and STRATCOM Strategic Advisory Group and is an advisor to Smith College's Picker Engineering Program and the University of Virginia, Department of Systems and Information Engineering.
